"Well it really started as a strict action film, really. I mean, let me say this, the metaphors were always there, the outline was always there but it really depended on who was telling the story and fortunately we got Doug Liman. In someone else's hands it could have very easily been just an action film, a straightforward action film. But what you see in this one, is that the action is always secondary, it's always behind, it's the backdrop for whatever is going on in the relationship, which usually is some kind of bickering or fighting and it's really well done that way."

"I think what happened, strangely enough, is that we read the script and it had some action in it and really it was a relationship comedy and then I think Brad and I, being two people that love action and the stunt coordinator knowing him from 'Troy' and me from 'Tomb Raider' , the action scenes suddenly went from three days to three weeks and everything got more competitive and bigger and bigger and bigger, so it turned more into an action movie."

PITT AND JOLIE THANK NAMIBIA FOR PEACEFUL BIRTH

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have thanked the people of Namibia for the "peaceful birth" of their daughter and said they hoped to return to the country.

AP Television News has acquired the worldwide rights to the exclusive first television interview, conducted by Nambian Broadcasting Corporation in the coastal town of Swakopmund.

The couple arrived at the interview smiling and looking relaxed and happy.

Angelina explained why they chose Namibia as the birth place for their new daughter:

"Well I had been here years before on a film and loved the country and loved the people here. And when we found out we were pregnant and thinking abut where we would want to go we thought we wanted to find a place that was...a beautiful place that our other children would enjoy. And we knew that this had so many wonderful sights and also the things to do here for them things that we wanted to show them, and places we wanted to spend time with them. "

Angelina Jolie is a frequent visitor to Africa and serves as goodwill ambassador for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

She said she will mark Refugee Day on 20 June, and described refugees as "the strongest people I have ever met."

"I usually am in Washington and depending on where we can be now because of travel restrictions and the new baby but I may be able to make it to Washington, if not I'll be delivering a statement from Los Angeles. But just a statement of hope and hope that people stay focussed on all the refugees in the world and hope that they continue to give them to aid and support that they need."

She went on to describe the ways in which she and Brad have given their thanks to the Namibian community in return for the hospitability and warmth that the community has shown them:

Brad Pitt expressed how much the couple had appreciated the warmth of the Namibian people during their time there, describing how their experience had impacted on the birth of their baby Shiloh Nouvel:

"I'd just like to thank the people in Namibia, they have been so gracious to us and made our stay here very special and because of that we have had an incredible time with our family exploring the country and a truly peaceful birth of our daughter, and that we are eternally grateful for and we will certainly be back."

Jolie also expressed her own heartfelt thanks to the people of Namibia:

Jolie and Pitt had powerful help protecting their privacy from the government of Namibia, which refused to grant entry to reporters seeking to cover the birth without the actors' written permission.

The government arrested photographers, confiscated film, ringed the couple's hotel with heavy security and set up large green barriers on the beach to shield their family.

Todays interview was the couple's second public appearance since Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt was born May 27 at a private clinic in Walvis Bay.

Delivered by Caesarean section, the baby weighed 7 pounds (3.15 kilogrammes) and was said to be in good health.

The couple had sought a place where they could spend some special time with her two adopted children, 16-month-old Zahara, from Ethiopia, and four-year-old Maddox, from Cambodia.

Jolie has two adopted children: toddler Zahara, from Ethiopia, and four-year-old Maddox, from Cambodia. Both had their surnames legally changed to Jolie-Pitt after Pitt announced his intentions to co-adopt the children.

Pitt, 42, and Jolie, 31, were first linked romantically after appearing together in the 2005 movie "Mr. & Mrs. Smith."

For more than a decade, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been a glamorous, globe-trotting Hollywood power couple, attracting cameras to their film projects and philanthropy alike.

With six children, homes in the U.S. and France, and the philanthropic Jolie-Pitt Foundation, the pair has much at stake. The pair became a couple in 2004 but married two years ago — which could further complicate the divorce that Jolie Pitt filed for Monday (19 SEPT. 2016), and put the future of all they've shared in the hands of teams of lawyers and accountants.

Under California law, only assets acquired during their marriage must be split equally, said Los Angeles divorce attorney Peter Walzer. Forbes magazine estimates the pair earned a combined $555 million since their relationship began, with pre-tax earnings of $117.5 million since their 2014 marriage.

Pitt and Jolie Pitt's relationship grew out their roles in the action comedy "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," and they reunited on the big screen for last year's marital melodrama "By the Sea."

The two don't have any joint upcoming projects. But both have a number of films coming out soon that will surely receive more attention in the wake of their breakup. Pitt stars in the World War II romantic thriller "Allied," which is out in November, and Jolie directed her fourth film, "First They Killed My Father," which is set to be released by Netflix next year.

For now, Jolie Pitt and Pitt's immediate concern, as evidenced by statements each of them issued Tuesday, appears to be their six children, who range in age from 8 to 15. Jolie Pitt is seeking sole physical custody, with Pitt having visitation.

Any custody agreement they reach in Los Angeles would continue to be enforceable overseas, and would spell out where the holidays will be celebrated and how Jolie Pitt and Pitt will make decisions about the children's medical care and education.

In addition to their children, a major part of the actors' identities has been their philanthropy.

What becomes of their Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which the couple founded in 2006, will also be an issue.

The pair did not address what would happen to the foundation in their statements, and a phone message left at a number associated with the Jolie-Pitt Foundation was not returned Tuesday.

A tax document filed in November showed the foundation had about $4.5 million in assets in 2014. Jolie and Pitt contributed $613,000 to the foundation that year, and the foundation paid out a variety of grants, including for wildlife conservation in Namibia, arts programs in Sarajevo, and a variety of projects in Cambodia.

BRAD PITT MAKES FIRST PUBLIC APPEARANCE SINCE LEAVING HOSPITAL

Actor Brad Pitt marked his first public appearance Wednesday (20 July 2005), following his 13 July release from a Los Angeles hospital after being diagnosed with a mild case of viral meningitis.

Looking happy and healthy, Pitt reportedly arrived at the Beverly Hills Hotel on a motorcycle. The actor was there to accept a charitable donation from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the group that produces the annual Golden Globe Awards.

The HFPA presented Pitt with a $250,000US cheque, who accepted on behalf of director Martin Scorsese's The Film Foundation, which focuses on film restoration.

Pitt, in jeans and a white jacket, and whose hair is still dyed blond, skipped the arrivals line and did not speak with media, though he did make a brief speech upon accepting the cheque.

Among the other stars accepting the HFPA's contributions were actors Sally Field, Peter Falk, Emmy Rossum, Kevin Bacon, Jesse Bradford, America Ferrera and Ziyi Zhang.

Zhang accepted money on behalf of FilmAid International, which brings filmed entertainment and education to Sudanese and other refugees in the Kakuma Refugee Camp in northwestern Kenya.

Zhang also spoke with AP Television News about her new film, the long-awaited "Memoirs of a Geisha," (from director Rob Marshall) in theatres at year's end.

All tolled, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association donated more than $1,000,000 in financial grants to film schools and non-profit organisation. Over the past 11 years, the HFPA has given more than $5,500,000 in financial grants.

BRAD PITT MAKES FIRST PUBLIC APPEARANCE SINCE LEAVING HOSPITAL

Actor Brad Pitt marked his first public appearance Wednesday (20 July 2005), following his release from a Los Angeles hospital on 13 July after being diagnosed with a mild case of viral meningitis.

Looking happy and healthy, Pitt reportedly arrived at the Beverly Hills Hotel on a motorcycle. The actor was there to accept a charitable donation from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the group that produces the annual Golden Globe Awards.

The HFPA presented Pitt with a 250,000US US dollars cheque, who accepted on behalf of director Martin Scorsese's The Film Foundation, which focuses on film restoration.

Pitt, in jeans and a white jacket, and whose hair is still dyed blond, skipped the arrivals line and did not speak with media, though he did make a brief speech upon accepting the cheque.

Among the other stars accepting the HFPA's contributions were actors Sally Field, Peter Falk, Emmy Rossum, Kevin Bacon, Jesse Bradford, America Ferrera and Ziyi Zhang.

Zhang accepted money on behalf of FilmAid International, which brings filmed entertainment and education to Sudanese and other refugees in the Kakuma Refugee Camp in northwestern Kenya.

Zhang also spoke with AP Television News about her new film, the long-awaited "Memoirs of a Geisha," (from director Rob Marshall) in cinemas at the end of the year.

All tolled, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association donated more than 1,000,000 US dollars in financial grants to film schools and non-profit organisation.

Over the past 11 years, the HFPA has given more than 5,500,000 US dollars in financial grants.

JOLIE AND PITT TOUR HAITI

Hollywood stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, visited a school and a detention centre in Pot au Prince, Haiti, on Friday (13JAN06).

The trip was initiated by the charity founded by Haitian-born hip-hop musician Wyclef Jean: Yele Haiti.

The Yele Haiti charity supports the promotion of rap music as a form of expression, as well as a number of progressive programmes such as scholarships, cleaning streets, food distribution and sports.

Angelina Jolie is well known for her work as goodwill ambassador for the United Nations.

Pitt and Jolie joined Wyclef Jean to visit a school where some students have received scholarships from Yele Haiti.

The couple watched children dance and recite poetry and met with workers from a street-cleaning program backed by the organisation and other groups.

They then headed to a juvenile detention centre where the charity plans to begin a tutoring program for the inmates.

They then went to a one-year anniversary party for Yele Haiti, held at a local television stationed owned by Wyclef Jean.

Pitt and Jolie recently announced that they are expecting their first child later this year.

Jolie, visibly pregnant said "Given just a little chance and given a little help that this is going to be an amazing country as it should be and as it once was."

Wyclef Jean said that hope and dreams were often more important than giving money and expressed his gratitude to Jolie and Pitt for their visit.

"Sometimes you think people need money. No that's not what they need. They need inspiration and they need a dream." he said.

Haiti is the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere and has experienced a recent upturn in gang and political-related violence in the last few weeks.

A presidential election is scheduled to take place on the 7th of February.

Brad Pitt and his siblings have given $1 million to help a Missouri hospital open a new pediatric cancer center that will be named for their mother.

Pitt and his siblings' families, Doug and Lisa Pitt and Rob and Julie Neal, gave the money to St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Mo., on Saturday in honor of their mother's passion for children's issues.

The hospital is opening the Jane Pitt Pediatric Cancer Center this summer in the town where Pitt and his siblings grew up. The donation will pay to hire the only pediatric oncologist and hematologist in the southwest Missouri region.

The new center will make St. John's one of six affiliates of St. Jude's Children's Research in Memphis, Tenn., meaning the center will be able to participate St. Jude's clinic research trials.

The Hollywood A List seem to have it all - but the one thing they often lack is time.

Yet plenty of top stars donate what little spare time they do have to help make a difference.

Angelina Jolie has been a UNHCR Goodwill ambassador since 2001. Both she and her partner, Brad Pitt say given the luck they have received in life, they would feel irresponsible if they didn't help others:

"There's no question we've hit the lottery in some way and as you travel around the world you see so many struggles, even our own country, so many people are hurting right now. And based on longitude and latitude, where they were born, what opportunities they're going to have, and I've always wrestled with that. And I feel very fortunate that I'm in a position where I can pass on some of that good fortune or a helping hand. I think it's been one of the nicest things about where I get to stand today," says Pitt.

Jolie says she also gets a lot in return from the people she helps:

Hollywood power-couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt donated over 8 (m) million US dollars in 2006 to charitable foundations.

Citing tax returns, the Huffington Post claims Pitt donated 4,402,317 US dollars with Jolie coming in at 4,123,613 US dollars through the Jolie Pitt Foundation.

The biggest amounts went to Doctors Without Borders (International Division) and Global AIDS Alliance, each of which received a million dollars apiece.

Other grants went to Namibia Red Cross Action Program (137,935 US dollars), Global Green USA (100,000 US dollars) and to the Epidermolysis Bulloma Medical Research Foundation (100,000 US dollars).

They also donated 100,000 US dollars to the Daniel Pearl Foundation. Jolie starred as Mariane Pearl in the 2007 film 'A Mighty Heart', an account of the life and death of her husband, Wall Street Journal reporter Danny Pearl.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are donating $2 million to the Namibian sanctuary where they spent Christmas with their kids.

The donation to the Naankuse Lodge and Wildlife Sanctuary was made through the Jolie-Pitt Foundation in the name of their daughter Shiloh, who was born in Namibia.

In a statement released Monday, Angelina said "We want her to be very involved and grow up with the understanding of her country of birth."

Angelina said the owners of the sanctuary are old friends. "We continue to be impressed by their hard work and dedication to the people and conservation of the land and wildlife of Namibia," she said.

The family spent Christmas together at the lodge, where staff say the children helped to feed and care for orphaned baby baboons and foxes and saw a leopard released back into the wild.

I'm just so happy to be part of the UN and to be a part of this family that are doing good to just help other people. That is what their focus is at the end of the day. And this award, being named after Sergio who I never got the chance to meet but people, kept telling me a few years ago 'oh you have to meet this guy', he is the most, you're going to love him, he is the most amazing person, everybody just can't say enough good things about him. I was so excited to meet him and I never will but every time I look at this I'm going to be reminded of him. MASSIMILIANO GIORNETTI KEEPS HIS FEET ON THE GROUND

He's come out of the shadows and into the world spotlight.

But Massimiliano Giornetti, Salvatore Ferragamo's Creative Director since 2010, says that he's still a "down to earth" guy - despite having tea with Meryl Streep and hanging out with Angelina Jolie.

The humility is perhaps surprising considering that Giornetti, who has breathed life into the 84-year-old fashion house, made history in June 2012 with the biggest catwalk coup in recent times: taking over the arcades of the Louvre for the 900-year-old building's first fashion show.

While the Louvre venue might be new, the Hollywood A-list has been linked to the Italian brand since the 1920s.

"I think that this liaison between Salvatore Ferragamo and the celebrity is probably the first big link between fashion from one side and celebrities from the other side," Giornetti tells The Associated Press.

It was patronage of actresses - such as Marilyn Monroe and Greta Garbo - that ensured Salvatore Ferragamo's fairytale rise from a humble shoe repair shop in California into the leather shoemaker of the stars.

Giornetti says Ferragamo's a natural hit because of a simple and universal concept: beauty with functionality.

"The first time Greta Garbo visited the Ferragamo headquarters," Giornetti recounts, "the diva said `I want to have shoes to walk with."'

That eye for comfort, stamped on the house from the beginning, was what made the shoes so famous.

Salvatore Ferragamo - the founder of the house who died in 1960 - even studied human anatomy to master how to make elegant shoes truly wearable.

From this know-how sprang the famous wedge heel in 1936.

Then later came the classic staple bestseller - the Vara Bow Pump.

Ferragamo ensured this philosophy was carried on to Giornetti, half a century later.

After 10 years designing Ferragamo's menswear, Giornetti was named Creative Director in 2010, giving him control of the women's side, too.

A native of Tuscany, Giornetti studied in Florence.

And with Ferragamo's headquarters situated in Florence's Palazzo Spini Feroni - a fortified medieval edifice - it's clear that both the designer and the brand have the city in their hearts.

There were nods to couture craftsmanship in the latest resort catwalk show, held under the iconic arches of the Louvre museum in Paris.

Ferragamo's links and sponsorship of da Vinci's restored masterpiece "The Virgin and Saint Anne" meant that the Louvre granted access.

Despite groundbreaking catwalk venues, and celebrities such as Angelina Jolie and Meryl Streep in his design reach, the Creative Director keeps his feet on the ground.

"I remember the fitting I did in London with Meryl Streep, before the Academy Awards, and the great honor," he explains.

"But the other side the memory of that moment is the kindness of Miss Meryl Streep - she landed from Los Angeles, she was probably very tired by the long flight, it was a rainy day in London as usual, but she was very nice, we were sharing a tea in the moment before her fitting and my memory is of such a great actress but in a private moment."

"I think that because I've got certain value(s) and I'm very down to earth, and also (a) very reserved person, I think that my life (is) changing in a way but didn't change in the other," he concludes.

"I still love doing the same things that I love to do when I was, when I was younger."

PEOPLE MAGAZINE GETS THE RIGHTS FOR BRANGELINA'S BABY SNAPS

A representative for People magazine says it has scored the U.S. rights to exclusive photos of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's newborn twins.

People spokeswoman Nancy Valentino said Friday (August 1st) that the magazine will feature Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon, in its Monday issue, which will be out on August 4th.

Managing Editor Larry Hackett said in a statement that "we're thrilled to be able to feature these pictures in People."

He added that "they will delight our readers who have followed the growth

of the Jolie-Pitt family."

The babies were born one minute apart July 12th, 2008 in Nice, France.

Their arrival provoked much speculation over which celebrity magazine would enter a bidding war for the first photos of the boy and girl.

Celebrity baby shots generate huge sums of money these days and create fierce bidding wars among celebrity magazines.The sum paid for the pictures has yet to be confirmed - but is thought to be the most expensive ever offered for a celebrity baby photo shoot.

The couple are expected to donate any fee to charity.

GEORGE CLOONEY ARRIVES IN VENICE FOR FILM FESTIVAL

George Clooney and Brad Pitt, whose schedule now includes the care of newborn twins, were expected to make two appearances at the Venice Film Festival this week.

The Hollywood stars were slated to appear Tuesday night at a fundraising event for their charity, Not On Our Watch. Then they were to return to the red carpet Wednesday when the Coen brothers film "Burn After Reading" opens the 65th edition of the festival, which runs through Sept. 6.

Pitt's partner, Angelina Jolie, gave birth last month to twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt. The couple have four older children: Maddox, 7; Pax, 4; Zahara, 3; and Shiloh, 2.

Not On Our Watch has raised more than $7 million to help victims both of the humanitarian crisis in the Darfur region of Sudan and the cyclone in Myanmar, also known as Burma, according to executive director Alex Wagner.

The charity, which was launched last year by the stars and some of their "Ocean's Thirteen" colleagues, uses their star appeal to bring attention to human rights abuses, but it isn't so easy to get even two of the founders together because of filming and family demands, Wagner said.

"Scheduling is very difficult. Two of them happened to be in Venice at the same time because of the 'Burn After Reading' premiere ... so there was a brainstorming session," she said.

Clooney will discuss the issues and where the charity puts its money at the fundraising dinner on Venice's Giudecca Island, which will be attended by some 200 industry insiders and Italian VIPs, Wagner said.

Among the group's donations was a $500,000 grant in March to keep helicopters and airplanes flying aid into Darfur - topping off a $1 million donation a year earlier for the same program.

"We sent out a press release one day saying we were on the verge of closing it down and the next day we had $500,000," said Bettina Luescher, a spokeswoman for the World Food Program at UN headquarters in New York City. "They shine the light on the real emergencies and step up where we really need help."

Without that money, Luescher said, the World Food Program had been on the verge of shutting down the air service to Darfur, which brings 3,000 aid workers a month to the stricken region. The UN food charity fed 3.3 million people there last month alone.

The air service is critical given deteriorating security, which makes road convoys vulnerable. Nearly 100 World Food Program food trucks have been hijacked this year alone.

Clooney has spoken for several years about the crisis in Darfur, where more than 200,000 people have been killed and about 2.5 million people displaced in three years of fighting between African rebels and government troops allied with Arab militia known as the Janjaweed.

He went on a UN technical mission including Darfur and neighbouring Chad in January, sharing his impressions with reporters upon his return to draw attention to the crisis.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have donated $1 million to the U.N. refugee agency providing aid to hundreds of thousands uprooted by violence in Pakistan.

The U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees says it is grateful for the donation from the Jolie-Pitt Foundation. It said Thursday the money will go to alleviating suffering caused by the "most challenging humanitarian crisis of the past decade."

UNHCR says over 2 million Pakistanis have been driven from their homes this year by fighting between government troops and Taliban militants in the northwest of the country.

Jolie has visited refugees in Pakistan on three missions since becoming goodwill ambassador for the agency in 2001. The Oscar-winning actress took Pitt with her on one such visit in 2005.

MATT DAMON HOSTS CHARITY GALA IN TORONTO

Academy Award winner Matt Damon was in Toronto supporting his latest project, One x One.

But this is not the title of a new film, it is the name of a charitable organisation that he is now supporting.

Damon hosted a gala fundraising event for the charity on Sunday (10 September) night.

One X One was established in 2005. The organisation aims to improve the lives of children around the world.

Damon's 'Ocean's Thirteen' co-star Brad Pitt who was in town supporting his film 'Babel' at the Film Festival, attended the event.

Grammy Award-wining singer John Legend performed as well as Canadian singers Raine Maida and Chantal Kreviazuk.

Damon also used the event as an opportunity to present his clean water agenda. He and producing partner Marc Joubert are making a documentary about the lack of clean water in Africa in hopes of raising money and awareness to help remedy the situation.

Damon says since becoming a father to his newborn daughter he has become more sensitive to issues affecting children around the world.

BEST OF THE BREAST FOES UNDER THE HAMMER

Sotheby's auction house in New York is known for selling rare and unique antiques and other items from the art world but nothing compares to the sale going on right now at Sotheby's-dot-com.

50 bras are up for bid, each one an original peace of art designed by celebrities.

Those who have taken part in the charity fundraising auction include Sheryl Crow, who created a bra encrusted with pink guitar picks. Jennifer Anniston and husband Brad Pitt recreated pictures of their hands on a bra.

Comedian Gary Shandling might have the most unique design, a bra made from two of the largest yarmulkes (kepahs) you'll ever see - each in royal blue, embroidered with the Star of David.

Actress Pamela Anderson has come up with a snow white, fuzzy retro design that seems fitting for her.

Other stars taking part include Christian Slater, Annette Bening, David Arquete, Jeff Goldblum, Melanie Griffith, Goldie Hawn, mena Suvari, Catherine Keener, Rod Stewart, Dustin Hoffman, David Duchovy with wife Tea Leoni and Jackie Collins.

The bras are expected to bring somewhere between two and four thousand a piece with the entire sale raking in around one hundred thousand dollars.

Each bra is signed by the celebrity designer and includes a sketchbook showing how the designs evolved.

Bidding lasts until next Tuesday.

Proceeds of the auction will go to benefit breast cancer research at U.C.L.A. and U.S.C.

Also at Thursday's event, the UNHCR awarded a refugee from eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, Rose Mapendo, who had started her own NGO for victims of conflict, with its US Humanitarian of the Year Award.

In 1998, four years after the Rwandan genocide claimed the lives of nearly one (m) million ethnic Tutsis and moderate Hutus, the Rwandan Tutsi army invaded the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), triggering another wave of violence against Congolese Tutsis.

According to the UNHCR, Mapendo and her husband, both Tutsis, were living with their seven children in the eastern DRC when the campaign against Tutsis began.

"At that time, I was really angry. And it became to the point was the end of my life," said Mapendo.

She went through a terrifying ordeal and flight before being offered a new home in the United States, where she has become an inspiring advocate of peace and support for refugees.
