Samantha Mewis hoped the FIFA Women's World Cup would help the people to respect female footballers more as she reacted to the "inappropriate" front cover on the French magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris on Thursday.

The defending champions and three-time winners of the World Cup were in Paris, preparing to face Chile in Group F after their 13-0 rout of Thailand on Tuesday.

Alex Morgan tied the tournament record with five goals while midfielders Samantha Mewis and Rose Lavelle each added a pair of goals, which broke the record for goals and margin of victory in a World Cup game.

Some complained the Americans' celebrations were "excessive and disrespectful", though Mewis said on Thursday that they "respect Thailand a lot" and will move on to the next game on Chile.

The Paris kosher supermarket where four hostages were killed by Amedy Coulibaly on 9 January reopened to an eager clientele on Sunday.

Coulibaly killed four hostages in the attack on the Hyper Cacher on the edge of Paris, two days after the assault on the Charlie Hebdo newspaper by the Kouachi brothers which left 12 dead.

But on Sunday, a throng of shoppers pushed toward the doors to stock up on kosher products, particularly in preparation for the Jewish holiday of Passover in early April.

Laurent Mimoun, who owns the supermarket, took media down to the cellar to show the cold storage rooms where the hostages were hidden during the assault.

He told assembled media that the victims of the assault were the key motivation in reopening the shop.

Eric Cohen, the father of the one of those victims, Yohan, a young man who worked at the Hyper Cacher, is still reeling from the death of his son.

"Hate, anger, injustice" is how he described his feelings at the reopening.

France's Interior Minister meanwhile toured the shop ahead of the customers.

He told reporters that "we are determined to live freely in our country" and appealed for harmony and brotherhood, which he said would always trump violence.

Sunday's clients, meanwhile, seemed undeterred by the deadline events of two months ago.

Clutching her matzo purchased for Passover in early April, Annie Boukobza said she would not live in fear.

"We live here and now we are coming back to shop here again because this is where we used to come regularly and we are not afraid," she said.

Over 300 protesters gathered in a narrow street front of the Tunisian embassy in Paris on Thursday to express their solidarity with the Tunisian people in the wake of a deadly attack carried out by gunmen on a museum in Tunis.

Demonstrators urged France to provide military assistance to Tunisia, to help the country combat the extremists, following the attack which claimed 23 lives.

French President Francois Hollande asked Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve to visit Tunisia on Friday to reinforce the security cooperation with the North African country.

The attack on Tunisia's national museum and the nearby parliament on Wednesday, for which the Islamic State group has claimed responsibility, tops years of radical violence that has rocked the country after the 2011 revolution that overthrew the country's long-ruling secular dictator.

The country's disparate radical elements appear to be increasingly drawn toward the banner of the Islamic State.

"Today I am shocked by what goes on in both of my countries for the people I love," Desiree Bellaiche, a Tunisian Jew who has been living in France for more than 50 years, said at the demonstration.

"I am Tunisian and Jewish and my partner is a Muslim. And we are the image of Tunisia, the image of tolerance, of solidarity of love between people without any distinction," she added.

Amongst French and Tunisians, a group of Kurds also joined the gathering to express their solidarity with Tunisia.

France's government is extending special "anti-terrorism" measures at least until early summer, with tens of thousands of security forces protecting hundreds of religious, tourist and other sites since deadly attacks in January in the country.

French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told journalists on Wednesday that the measures would be re-evaluated in early summer but could remain beyond that.

He said 7,000 troops will be permanently assigned to "counter terrorist" protection.

Le Drian said that French President Francois Hollande decided on Wednesday to extend the measures "as long as necessary."

He also mentioned the "legitimate worry" on the European security "as a neighbouring country, Ukraine, is going through a deep crisis."

"This crisis makes us fear what everybody has been trying to avoid since the end of Word War 1: the recurrence of a war in Europe," he added.

Some 10,000 soldiers are among the tens of thousands of security forces deployed since the January 7-9 attacks on a Paris kosher market and a satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo.

Twenty people, including the three gunmen, were killed.

As many as six suspects in the Paris attacks may still be at large, including a man who was seen driving a car registered to the widow of one of the gunmen, French police said on Monday.

"This is very scary," said Mendi Duchan, a Jewish French Resident.

"It's not only for Jews that this could be a danger, but this could a danger for the entire world," he said.

Two police officials told The Associated Press that authorities were searching the Paris area for the Mini Cooper registered to Hayat Boumeddiene, Coulibaly's widow.

Turkish officials say she is now in Syria.

Ahead of the first anniversary of the Charlie Hebdo attacks, the newspaper has published its latest edition.

It has elicited a mixed response from Paris residents as the artists refuse to shy away from last year's atrocities.

STORYLINE:

Parisiennes buy-up their daily papers.

Today the usual batch has been joined by the latest copy of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

The 32 page magazine marks the first anniversary of the 7 January 2015 attack on the paper's staff by Islamic militants.

As ever its front page is provocative - a depiction of God wielding a Kalashnikov.

Inside features obscene and offensive cartoons, the publication's surviving artists and columnists vaunting their freedom to lampoon everyone from Muslim fundamentalists to children, politicians and Catholic priests.

Surviving staff have declared the paper alive and well, but the headline announces 'The murderer is still at large'.

The headline has divided Parisiennes.

Paris resident Francoise Dufour says it is designed to offend, but that is simply Charlie's 'tone'.

"To me it (the front page) is in Charlie's tone. It is Charlie Hebdo so we should not expect them to become kind of angelical because their team has been reduced by a tenth the way we know (mass shooting)."

Charlie Hebdo's anniversary edition blames Islamic fundamentalists, organised religion, an irresolute government and intelligence failures for the 2015 violence in France.

President Francois Hollande honoured the 17 victims of the January Paris attacks on Charlie Hebdo, a kosher market and police.

Hollande unveiled a plaque near Charlie Hebdo's offices which read "To the memory of victims of the terrorist attack against freedom of expression."

"No they should never stop. They have to continue. We should never stop (doing those kind of front pages), because if we stop we give the right to sick people (terrorist), to continue what they are doing. So we should never stop." says Houssem.

He says he's been treated no differently since the attacks.

"After all the attacks that happened here. They (French people), know that Muslims here in France are not the same that those with Daesh. People have to make the distinction and here frankly, I'm working with French people, my colleagues are French and I have no trouble with them. Really no problem."

The country remains under a state of emergency after the 13 November attacks in Paris that killed 130 people, and extra security was on hand for Tuesday's commemorations.

DEMAND FOR NEW CHARLIE HEBDO ISSUE OUT STRIPS SUPPLY

"Tomorrow" was the word of the day across Paris on Wednesday (14 JAN. 2015) as Charlie Hebdo's defiant new issue sold out before dawn, with scuffles at kiosks over dwindling copies of the paper which has the Prophet Muhammad on its front page.

Scores of people tried to purchase a copy of the latest edition of the magazine at news outlets across the city a week after the assault by two masked gunmen which killed 12 people, including many of the magazine's editorial staff and two police officers.

Those interested gave their names to kiosk vendors and many left their telephone numbers to be informed of when the next batch of the magazine would be delivered.

Simon, a kiosk owner in Paris, said he wrote down names of at least one hundred people who are expected to line up outside his kiosk early on Thursday to purchase the latest issue of Charlie Hebdo.

Many said they wanted to buy the magazine to show their support for what happened and help overcome the tragedy.

"I just want to be part of those who buy the magazine following what happened because I think it's important," said Paris resident Alice Hofer-Oudot.

Three million copies of Charlie Hebdo were being delivered across France on Wednesday.

The latest issue of Charlie Hebdo has maintained the intentionally offensive tone that made the newspaper famous in France, although global news organizations have differed in their decisions to run images of the cover.

Solidarity for Charlie Hebdo, although not uniform, was widespread in France and abroad.

Hundreds of Parisians formed long lines at news outlets across the city as the latest edition of Charlie Hebdo's magazine went on sale in France on Wednesday.

Charlie Hebdo's defiant new issue sold out before dawn around Paris, with scuffles at kiosks over dwindling copies of the paper which has the Prophet Muhammad on its front page.

The sixty copies received by kiosk vendor Tayeb Bekhrad were gone minutes after being delivered at 06:00 local time (0500 GMT).

Some newsstand operators said they expected more copies to arrive on Thursday.

Three million copies of Charlie Hebdo were being delivered across France a week to the day after the assault by two masked gunmen which killed 12 people, including many of the magazine's editorial staff and two police officers.

It was the beginning of three days of terror which saw 17 people killed before the three Islamic extremist attackers were gunned down by security forces.

Charlie Hebdo had faced repeated threats and a firebombing for depictions of the Prophet Muhammad, and its editor and his police bodyguard were the first to die.

The latest issue of Charlie Hebdo has maintained the intentionally offensive tone that made the newspaper famous in France, although global news organisations have differed in their decisions to run images of the cover.

Solidarity for Charlie Hebdo, although not uniform, was widespread in France and abroad.

Relatives and friends of Charlie Hebdo cartoonist Bernard Verlhac gathered at a Paris cemetery on Thursday to pay their respects to the artist who together with nine of his work colleagues was shot dead in the newspaper's office last week.

Verlhac, who drew under the name Tignous, was born in Paris in 1957 and published his first works in Charlie Hebdo in 1980.

Among hundreds of mourners who came to the Pere Lachaise Cemetery, where Verlhac was buried earlier on Thursday, was his friend Franck Glemin.

Glemin said he was angry that his friend was "poorly protected" and that the killing "shouldn't have happened."

Among the people who came to the cemetery braving the rain was Marcelo Milchberg from Argentina.

Milchberg said he wanted to show solidarity with the cartoonist and his colleagues.

Charlie Hebdo cartoonist Georges Wolinski, columnists Bernard Maris and Elsa Cayat, and Franck Brinsolaro, the policeman bodyguard for slain Charlie Hebdo chief Stephane Charbonnier, were also buried on Thursday.

Friends, family and officials paid their last respects on Thursday to Charlie Hebdo columnist Elsa Cayat, who was among the 12 killed in the January 7 attack on the satirical newspaper's offices in Paris.

A psychoanalyst, Cayat wrote a column twice a month for Charlie Hebdo on various topics ranging from the origins of the Holocaust to parental authority.

"Tomorrow" was the word of the day across Paris on Wednesday as Charlie Hebdo's defiant new issue sold out before dawn, with scuffles at kiosks over dwindling copies of the paper which has the Prophet Muhammad on its front page.

Scores of people tried to purchase a copy of the latest edition of the magazine at news outlets across the city a week after the assault by two masked gunmen which killed 12 people, including many of the magazine's editorial staff and two police officers.

Those interested gave their names to kiosk vendors and many left their telephone numbers to be informed of when the next batch of the magazine would be delivered.

Simon, a kiosk owner in Paris, said he wrote down names of at least one hundred people who are expected to line up outside his kiosk early on Thursday to purchase the latest issue of Charlie Hebdo.

Many said they wanted to buy the magazine to show their support for what happened and help overcome the tragedy.

"I just want to be part of those who buy the magazine following what happened because I think it's important," said Paris resident Alice Hofer-Oudot.

The satirical weekly has maintained the intentionally offensive tone that made it famous in France.

Three million copies of Charlie Hebdo were delivered across France on Wednesday, a week to the day after the assault by two masked gunmen that killed 12 people, including many of the magazine's editorial staff and two police officers.

Many Muslim residents appeared to be offended by the latest cover, including Ahmed Youssef, who called it a "provocation."

But one man appeared to welcome the issue saying, "Today we are all Charlie."

Elsewhere, people continued to visit a makeshift memorial outside the Charlie Hebdo offices, dedicated to those who were killed in the bloody attack.

One of those who came to the memorial was Alain Antoine, who brought his daughter so she could learn about "freedom of expression."

CHARLIE HEBDO PRINT A NEW EDITION ALMOST A WEEK AFTER THE SHOOTING AT ITS OFFICES

The French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo printed a new edition on Tuesday (13 JAN. 2015), almost a week after two gunmen stormed its offices in Paris, killing 12 people.

The cover was unveiled to media at a news conference in Paris, where the cartoonist who drew it - Renald Luzier, known as Luz - repeatedly broke down in tears.

The edition is a demonstration of defiance, with a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad on the front cover, and a double-page spread inside which claimed more people marched in support of the magazine on Sunday than turned out for mass.

The magazine's director, Gerard Biard, said the print run of the latest edition was three million, compared to the usual figure of just 60,000.

He said it would be translated online into English, Spanish and Arabic, as well as French.

The sombre mood at the news conference was lightened when Biard thanked Hollywood stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and George Clooney for their support.

Mourners on Thursday morning gathered to pay their respects to Charlie Hebdo cartoonist Georges Wolinski, who was killed in last week's deadly attack on the newspaper's offices.

Among the mourners was Wolinski's daughter, Elsa, who said even though her father was gone, his ideas and principles lived on.

Wolinski, 80, was one of Charlie Hebdo's veteran cartoonists.

His works had appeared in weekly magazine Paris Match, satirical magazine Hara-Kiri - considered a forerunner of Charlie Hebdo - and numerous other publications.

Staff of a French satirical newspaper gathered at the headquarters of the Liberation newspaper in Paris on Friday, two days after an attack on the Charlie Hebdo offices left 12 people dead.

Representatives of the Charlie Hebdo newspaper told reporters that the upcoming Wednesday issue of the paper would still run, despite the attack.

Around 30 remaining staff are using Liberation's office space and computers to produce the next edition of the paper, according to Liberation editor in chief Laurent Joffrin.

Charlie Hebdo previously relocated to Liberation's building for several weeks in 2011 when their offices were firebombed after the publication spoofed Islam and depicted the Prophet Muhammad in caricature.

The staff was in an editorial meeting when Wednesday's attack happened.

Eight journalists, two police officers, a maintenance worker and a visitor were killed, according to prosecutor Francois Molins.

The magazine's editor Stephane Charbonnier, known as Charb, had been specifically threatened in a 2013 edition of the al-Qaida magazine Inspire.

A caricature of Islamic State's leader was tweeted by the newspaper, minutes before the attack.

The mayor of Jerusalem on Wednesday visited the offices of the Charlie Hebdo newspaper and the kosher supermarket where 17 people lost their lives in militant attacks.

"We are working very hard in Jerusalem to gather all the good people, Jewish, Christians and Muslims together against extreme terrorists and extremists in general," Barkat said.

Barkat and his delegation were also scheduled to meet with the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo and to visit the synagogue of Paris.
