A North Korean defector criticized the inter-Korean summit on Saturday, saying the two leaders "put on a show" withouth adressing human rights issues while "North Korean people are suffering from the slave regime."

Lee Ae-ran says she defected in 1997 due to the North Korean regime's abuse for her father's past as an anti-Kim Il Sung activist.

She now works in a North Korean restaurant in Seoul.  

Lee says Pyongyang failed to improve basic human rights and minimum living standars for its people.

The leaders of the two Koreas met in Panmunjom, at the DMZ (the Demilitarized Zone that divides the Koreas), on Friday and vowed to remove nuclear weapons from the peninsula and work toward a formal end to the Korean War.

"Seeing the Pyongyang naengmyeon (the North Korean cold noodle) set (at the dinner of the inter-Korean summit), South Korean people enthusiastic of it and journalists broadcasting it (the inter-Korean summit), made me feel very angry, sad and miserable. (I thought that they were) very cruel. North Korean people are suffering from the slave regime. I don't know if the people really want to do that."

"What else has been changed? What has been improved for the North Korean people? Has the human rights issue been solved or has the North Korean people's way of living (living standards) been solved? Watching the summit on the TV yesterday, I thought that (South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un) were just putting on a show."

"People should be able to work there (when the two Koreas become unified). The constitution has to be amended and the regime has to change completely. Moreover, the environment should be altered so that the North Korean citizens can have basic living standards (that fulfil basic human rights). People could return back to North Korea only if all the conditions are fulfilled. However, there's no reason to go back."
