Sigourney Weaver has spring in her step with the "Bunny Hop"

Hollywood actress Sigourney Weaver turned up at New York's flagship toy store FAO Schwartz yesterday to help raise funds for a local cancer charity. The statuesque star of Alien Resurrection brought her daughter and friends along to take part in the annual Easter Bunny Hop parade.

"Bunny Hop" has become a traditional event for high-profile New York families and celebrities to help benefit the Society of memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. The pioneering hosiptal is at the vanguard of breast cancer research.

Looking for a perfect Easter gift for that chocoholic in your life?

Well if you have a spare GBP �33,000 (USD $49,000) then website VeryFirstTo.com may have the answer.

They are selling a 38cm high Easter bunny, which has been hand-carved from a block of 75 percent Tanzania-origin chocolate by award-winning chocolatier and International pastry consultant Martin Chiffers - a former chef decor of Harrods.

The bunny's eyes have added sparkle from two 1.70 carat round brilliant diamonds, which have been nestled into the chocolate, with a combined value of over GBP �25,000.

"We're now coming towards Easter and we wanted to come up with the dream Easter gift and we couldn't think of anything more unprecedented and remarkable than a beautifully carved chocolate Eater bunny enhanced by the most phenomenal 1.70 carat diamonds," says Marcel Knobil, founder of VeryFirstTo.

"I think most rabbits are probably accustomed to standard carrots but you can't imagine more impressive carats than these for what is the most extravagant Easter bunny in the world."

The chocolate bunny took two days to carve and weighs around five kilograms. That means that it contains about 584,000 calories.

And though it wasn't intended as an edible treat, the buyer may find it hard to resist.

"Every time I've been close to it, it's just smelt delicious," says Tobias Kormind, managing director of 77 Diamonds, who provided the stones.

"You just want to lean in and nibble the ear a little bit."

For those who can resist the temptation to eat it, the bunny can be displayed for two years if its temperature is regulated to around 16 degrees.

If it's purchased, a donation of GBP �1,000 will be made to The Prince's Trust charity.

77 Diamonds have offered to create a bespoke piece of jewelry for the buyer featuring the gems free of charge.

Smaller stones are available upon request, which would reduce the total cost.

STORYLINE

THE BUNNY MUSEUM

When Candace Frazee and her husband Steve Lubanksi exchanged bunnies on Valentine''s day they didn''t know they were on their way to holding the largest collection of bunnies in the world.

But one led to another and now 26,000 bunnies later the couple have broken a Guinness World Record and have turned their home into a bunny museum.

Frazee and Lubansky been collecting bunny-related items for 18 years, and has been running the museum in their home for 12 years.

Frazee said the couple''s interest in bunnies began when they were dating, when she called Lubanski her "honey bunny."

Lubanski bought Frazee a stuffed bunny for Valentine''s Day; she then bought him a porcelain bunny for Easter, and soon they were buying each other bunnies as love tokens.

The stuffed white bunny that began the couple''s bunny obsession is now on display at the Bunny Museum -- along with more than 26,000 other bunnies and bunny-related items.

The Guinness Book of World Records has recognised The Bunny Museum for having the world''s largest collection of bunnies.

Frazee describes The Bunny Museum as "a living museum," because it is located in the couple''s home.

They hold down full-time jobs, he runs a bicycle shop and she is a writer who works from home, and Frazee gives tours of the museum by appointment only; there is no admission fee.

Frazee has published one book about bunnies and is working on a second, in between her duties running the museum.

The museum includes the couple''s five pet rabbits, who are not kept in cages; rather, they are free to roam about the house.

Visitors are encouraged to bring vegetables to feed to the pet bunnies, and the museum accepts donations of bunny-related items.

Frazee said the most popular item in the museum is a ceramic water pitcher that resembles Elvis Presley.

Frazee said she has nearly run out of room in her home, so she is looking for a bigger location for her museum.

An exhibition of around one thousand painted and decorated Easter eggs are on show at the Saxon Folk Art Museum in the German city of Dresden.

The museum's complete collection boasts around four thousand eggs in total.

Decorating Easter eggs is one of many folk arts with a long tradition in Germany, particularly in Saxony.

STORYLINE

The decorated Easter egg exhibition at the Saxon Folk Art Museum in Dresden displays not just a vast collection of eggs, but also provides a forum for local and international artists.

A variety of different craft techniques can be seen in the exhibition.

The egg was originally a symbol for fertility in many cultures.

For the Christian religion, eggs symbolise new life and rebirth.

Manufacturer of Sorbian eggs, Baerbel Lange, says decorating eggs is fun and gets her and her friends in the Easter mood.

She says she looks forward to Easter from the end of January onwards - largely due to egg decoration.

The egg is attractive to folk artists mostly because of its shape, form and surface.

Russian artist, Wassa Rosina-Bergmann, says she is fascinated by the way an image develops around the egg.

She says Russian style eggs are popular and are highly distinctive.

In the Russian tradition, artists use wooden eggs of different sizes, which are painted with lacquer.

Eggs decorated with traditional Sorbian methods are usually hard boiled.

Sorbian artists used various techniques, such as engraving the eggs with a quill.

Motifs on eggs are supposed to protect house and home.

Decorations on eggs in the exhibition range from hen's eggs to ostrich and dove's eggs.

Some eggs are decorated with the traditional Easter bunnies.

Others depict the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and classical and modern designs.

One egg on display even has horseshoes, traditionally created by Hungarian blacksmiths.

The curator of Saxon Folk Art Museum, Bernd Herrde, says the horseshoe technique means to paste straw applications onto the egg's surface.

He says eggs are then coloured with natural pigments or pasted up with gemstones.

The exhibition has been running seventeen years and takes place from 15 - 30th March each year.

Moscow has been adorned with colourful Easter decorations ahead of one of the most widely celebrated holidays in the country.

Muscovites on Friday said they loved the way the city looked decorated with church replicas, large floral frames, bunnies and Easter eggs on trees.

Greek Orthodox and Eastern Orthodox pilgrims are commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ this Sunday.

Hundreds of children gathered on the White House lawn on Monday for the annual Easter egg roll.

30-thousand children and their families converged on the South Lawn to participate in an annual tradition dating back 120 years.

The Marine band, seated in the shade of the South Portico, played, "The Easter Parade," instead of "Hail to the Chief" as the president entered.

Easter bunnies flanked him and waved to the kids.

The White House kitchen dyed 7,200 hard-boiled eggs for the egg roll, an Easter Monday event that dates to 1879 and the presidency of Rutherford B. Hayes.

STORYLINE

Few places in the world celebrate chocolate the way they do in Belgium.

This is particularly true with the arrival of Easter and Holy Week, key dates in the Christian calendar.

The chocolate shops that line the streets of the old town in Brussels transform their window displays into the ultimate chocolate showcase, luring sweet toothed passers by inside.

This is where praline was invented - by Neuhaus. The first chocolate bar was made here - in 1921 by a company called Kwatta. It is also where chocolate spread was first patented.

It was carnival time on the White House lawn Monday as thousands of children took part in the annual Easter Egg Roll.

Americans celebrated Easter Sunday with a combination of popular and religious events.

In New York, bad weather didn't deter some from turning out to show off handmade Easter bonnets.

Under gloomy skies and in the shadow of Saint Patrick's cathedral, New Yorkers came out to celebrate Easter with their traditional parade down Fifth Avenue.

From the very old to the very young, participants in the procession sported elaborate Easter bonnets that ranged from the elegant to the outlandish.

Crowds of holiday makers took to New York's swanky Fifth Avenue

for the traditional Easter Parade on Sunday. Tourists, New

Yorkers, and giant Easter bunnies rubbed shoulders in a light

STORYLINE

Easter arrived early this year for the animals living in Buenos Aires Zoo, Argentina.

On Thursday, they found colourful Easter-eggs in their enclosures containing their usual food.

"We offer them replicas of Easter eggs painted with drawings inspired by Argentine artists, as well as Easter bunnies. Obviously the animals don't know it is Easter, they don't know what Easter eggs are, but we hide bits of their food inside the eggs," explained zoo biologist Marcia Saban.

A white lioness and her cubs approached the eggs with suspicion at first, but soon discovered the meat inside.

The cubs were born in the zoo last November to a couple of white lions brought from South Africa.

The resident polar bear was also enjoying Easter treats by the pool.

The Easter show was all part of the zoo's latest publicity campaign linked to the Christian calendar in order to boost visitor numbers during the holidays.

Italians are making last-minute preparations ahead of Easter Sunday. For many, that meant heading out to the shops in search of the traditional Colomba cake.

Colomba means "dove" in Italian. Unsurprisingly, the cake comes in the shape of the bird.

It is traditionally consumed by Italians on Easter Sunday.

One delicatessen in Rome was packed with customers.

Roberto Castroni, the owner of the eponymous chain of delicatessen shops, has been working on the Easter cakes and confectionaries for over two months now.

The sweets have been selling for the past twenty days. Castroni has so far sold about 4,000 Colomba cakes.

The Colomba cake is made from flour, eggs, sugar, almonds and dried, sweet fruit.

"I buy it (Colomba sweet) because they are a sweet that everybody loves and then because it gives one a sense of peace," said one customer.

Hundreds of children in brightly coloured raincoats rolled Easter eggs on Monday on the soggy South Lawn of the White House, before heavy rain ended the celebration early.

The White House tradition included face painting, magicians, life-size Easter characters and the egg roll during which children use big spoons to push coloured eggs through the grass in a race.

About 16-thousand tickets were distributed to the public early on Saturday.

The event ended four hours early due to bad weather.

Thousands of New Yorkers turned out for the annual Easter Parade down Fifth Avenue.

Some wore elaborate bonnets and others just turned out to watch the fun.

Fifth Avenue was blocked off to traffic for the annual spring promenade.

When the church services in Manhattan ended, the parade began.

There was a carnival-like atmosphere in the air with balloons and baskets and flowers on almost every head.

One woman seemed a bit confused about the season. Instead of the ever-ready bunny, she sported an animated Santa on her bonnet.

It is their last year hosting the event.

The egg rolling began in 1878.

US President Barack Obama and his family on Monday welcomed thousands of children to the White House for the traditional Easter Egg Roll.

Robby Novak, who plays "Kid President" in a series of popular YouTube videos introduced the First Family to a cheering crowd of 30,000 children and parents, alongside a giant Easter bunny.

Speaking from the White House's Truman Balcony, Obama thanked the crowd on the sunny springtime day before joining in the egg roll.

Michelle Obama also addressed the crowd and said the the day was "in celebration of nutrition and health and activity."

The First Lady stressed the importance of healthy eating habits, despite the day's traditional emphasis on chocolate and jelly beans.

The Obama family then walked down on to the South Lawn to join in the 135th Easter Egg Roll.

Officials say about 14,500 eggs were dyed for the egg roll and hunt, with another 4,500 eggs given out for children to decorate.

President Obama was seen comforting a little boy for whom the competition proved too much, making sure he too was given an egg.

One highlight of this year's event was the "Eggtivity Zone," in which athletes and coaches helped teach kids how to play sports.

Among the stars booked for this duty were Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, NASCAR driver Danica Patrick, gymnast John Orozco and Washington Wizards point guard John Wall.

The festivities on the South Lawn went ahead, despite earlier warnings from the White House that budget battles could have forced the event's cancellation.
