The funeral of Turkish Consul-General Kemal Arikan Mr. Arikan, aged 54, killed by two gunmen while he was sitting in his car at a traffic light near the centre of Los Angeles. Shortly after the killing, a caller had telephoned a newspaper in the city and claimed responsibility for the shooting, in the name of the "Justice Commandos for the American Genocide". The group, which says the Turks killed more than a million Armenians in 1915, has previously claimed responsibility for bomb attacks on Turkish offices in the United States. Turkish political violence continues to claim increasing number of victims. Gunmen shot dead former prime minister, Nihat Erim Erim's fineral was attended by Tukish Prime Minister Suleyman Demirel, and former prime minister Bulent Ecevit. Kemal Turkler, a labour movement official was also assassinated, his body seen withthe ambulance.
