An Associated Press journalist has counted at least 22 bodies at the wreckage site of a passenger plane that was shot down on July 17th 2014 as it flew over the country.

Both the government and the pro-Russia separatists fighting in the region denied any responsibility for downing the plane.

The plane appeared to have broken up before impact and the burning wreckage - which included body parts and the belongings of passengers - was scattered over a wide area.

Dead bodies of passengers were visible amongst the smouldering wreckage of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 on July 17th after the plane was shot down over eastern Ukraine.

Both the Ukrainian government and the pro-Russia separatists fighting in the region denied any responsibility for downing the aircraft, which was carrying 295 people.

As plumes of black smoke rose up near a rebel-held village of Hrabove, an Associated Press journalist counted at least 22 bodies at the wreckage site 40 kilometres (25 miles) from the Russian border.

The Boeing 777-200ER plane, travelling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, appeared to have broken up before impact and the burning wreckage, which included body parts and the belongings of passengers, was scattered over a wide area.

A Malaysia Airlines passenger plane carrying 295 people was shot down over eastern Ukraine on July 17th, Ukrainian officials said.

The Boeing 777-200ER plane, travelling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, appeared to have broken up before impact and the burning wreckage, which included body parts and the belongings of passengers, was scattered over a wide area.

Both the government and the pro-Russia separatists fighting in the region denied any responsibility for downing the aircraft.

The village is under the control of pro-Russia separatists and the area has seen severe fighting between the two sides in recent days.

A Russian news report said pro-Russia rebels intend to call a three-day cease-fire to allow for an investigation into the crash and recovery efforts.

Flowers were laid outside Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands on July 20th to commemorate the victims of the downed flight MH17.

KLM (Royal Dutch Airlines) flight attendants and members of the public also left messages in a book of condolences just outside the airport.

Airline employees are starting to wonder how safe it is to fly over crisis zones.

"We always assume that everything is safe but apparently it is not, so that is another reason to be wondering what happened here," said Boris Tester, a purser for KLM.

The Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said Saturday he had an "extremely intense" telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which he urged him to use his influence over separatist rebels in Ukraine to ensure they do not hinder efforts to investigate the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17.

The plane crashed on July 17th, killing all 298 passengers and crew, most of them Dutch citizens.

A crane at the crash scene moved big chunks of the Boeing 777 on Monday while emergency workers retrieved more bodies in the sprawling fields of eastern Ukraine where Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was downed, killing all 298 people aboard.

By early July 21st, local emergency workers had piled at least 21 black body bags by the side of the road in Hrabove.

That brought the total found to 272 of the 298 passengers and crew killed in the tragedy, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

The bodies were being sent to the refrigerated railcars in the nearby town of Torez, where the other bodies are being kept.

A train engineer told The Associated Press that the cars' refrigeration had been off overnight and it was not immediately clear why. The cooling system was back up and running early July 21st, he said.

The shambolic attempts to investigate by the pro-Russia separatists who control the verdant farmland where pieces of the plane crashed have fanned widespread international outrage, especially from the nations whose citizens were on the doomed plane.

Four days after the jetliner was shot out of the sky, international investigators still had only limited access to the crash site in eastern Ukraine.

The the UN Security Council is expected to vote today on an Australia-proposed resolution demanding international access to the crash site and a cease-fire around the area.

A refrigerated train bearing the bodies of many of the 298 people killed in the Malaysia Airlines plane disaster pulled away on July 21st from a rebel-held town in eastern Ukraine.

The train left from Torez, 15 kilometres (9 miles) from the crash site.

An Associated Press reporter overheard armed separatists saying it was heading for the rebel-held town of Ilovaysk.

There was no official confirmation of that destination from the rebels.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said that the remains of 282 of the crash victims are being moved by train to Kharkiv, where they will be handed over to Dutch authorities.

From there, he said, they will be flown to Amsterdam on a Dutch C130 Hercules military plane and handed over to Dutch authorities.

Razak said the leader of the pro-Russian rebels has agreed to hand over both black boxes from Flight 17 to Malaysian investigators who are in Ukraine.

A Ukrainian separatist leader handed over black boxes from flight MH17 to Malaysia officials in Donetsk early on July 22nd.

Alexander Borodai, Prime Minister of self-proclaimed People's Republic of Donetsk said they were "being returned to their owners."

A Malaysian investigator said the boxes were in good condition.

Flight MH17 was shot down in the rebel-controlled area of eastern Ukraine, killing all 298 people onboard.

Experts have called for a full forensic sweep of the crash site amid suggestions that some of the evidence may have been tampered with.

Scuffles broke out in the Ukrainian parliament on July 22nd after a lawmaker blamed the Ukrainian authorities for failing to adopt a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine and accused them of running a war against the Ukrainian people.

The accusations were made by lawmaker Mykola Levchenko from the Party of Regions, which was close to Ukraine's former president Viktor Yanukovych.

Lawmaker Ihor Miroshychenko from the Svoboda Party started to push Levchenko, before other lawmakers joined in the fight.

The incident took place as parliament discussed Malaysian airlines flight MH17, which crashed in eastern Ukraine the previous week.

The parliamentary session started with a minute of silence to remember the victims.

Oleksandr Turchynov, the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament, accused Russia of committing "acts of military aggression against Ukraine" by providing weapons to separatist fighters in eastern Ukraine and sending troops to the border.

"Russia is continuing an escalation of armed opposition in these (Donetsk and Luhansk) regions," said Andriy Parubiy, the Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council.

"Right now, around 41-thousand Russian Federation armed forces servicemen are located on the eastern and northern Ukrainian borders and Crimea's borders," he added.

Fighting in eastern Ukraine began in mid-April after Russia annexed Ukraine's southern Crimean Peninsula a month earlier.

Monitors from the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) on July 23rd visited a different site peppered with wreckage of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17.

The pro-Russian separatists who are in control of the main crash area are showing little willingness to allow the full-scale investigation that's being demanded by world leaders.

The debris is still unguarded across a wide stretch of farmland.

International observers say there are signs that the debris is being mishandled or even tampered with.

So far, though, there still has not been a full-scale investigation of the site.

Ukrainian aviation officials were allowed to visit briefly on July 18th but got little access.

Forensic officials from the Netherlands were allowed a visit on July 21st.

Two military cargo planes, one Dutch and the other Australian, also flew 38 more coffins carrying victims to the Netherlands for identification and investigation.

The planes took off on July 26th from Kharkiv, a government-controlled city where the bodies have been brought from the wreckage site in territory held by pro-Russian separatists fighting the Ukrainian government.

They landed later in the afternoon in Eindhoven, where the coffins were transferred to a fleet of hearses in a solemn ceremony.

Officials said the flights took the last of the 227 coffins containing victims that had been brought to Kharkiv by refrigerated train.

Officials say the exact number of people held in the coffins is still to be determined by forensic experts in the Netherlands.

International observers have said there are still remains at the crash site. Access has been limited due to rebel interference and security concerns.

The Boeing 777 went down July 17 as it headed to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam, killing all 298 people on board. Most of them were Dutch citizens.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott arrived in Putrajaya on Saturday where he was welcomed by his Malaysian counterpart, Najib Razak.

Abbott was in Malaysia's administrative city, 25 kilometres (15.5 miles) south of the capital Kuala Lumpur, for a one-day visit following a visit to India.

The ongoing search efforts for the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 were high on the agenda during Abbott's visit.

Both leaders reiterated their commitment to continue the search until what was left of the missing aircraft is found.

They also discussed bilateral issues, including strengthening trade ties between the two countries and regional security.

The Malaysian jetliner missing for more than a week had its communications deliberately disabled and its last signal came about seven and a half hour after takeoff, meaning it could have ended up as far as Kazakhstan or deep in the southern Indian Ocean, Malaysia's leader said on Saturday.

Prime Minister Najib Razak's statement confirmed days of mounting speculation that the disappearance of the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 was not accidental, and underlined the massive task for searchers who have been scouring vast areas of ocean.

"Despite media reports that the plane was hijacked, I wish to be very clear - we are still investigating all possibilities as to what caused MH370 to deviate from its original path," Najib said.

"In view of this latest development, the Malaysian authorities have refocused their investigation into the crew and passengers on board," Najib added, stressing they were still investigating all possibilities as to why the plane deviated so drastically from its original flight path.

The plane was carrying 239 people when it departed for an overnight flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing at 00:40 local time, on March 8 (16:40 GMT on March 7).

The plane's communications with civilian air controllers were severed at about 01:20 local time (17:30 GMT), and the jet went missing in one of the most puzzling mysteries in modern aviation history.

Najib said investigators now had a high degree of certainly that one of the plane's communications systems - the Aircraft and Communications Addressing and Reporting System - was disabled before the aircraft reached the east coast of Malaysia.

Shortly afterwards, someone on board then switched off the aircraft's transponder, which communicates with civilian air traffic controllers.

The prime minister then confirmed that Malaysian air force defence radar picked up traces of the plane turning back westwards, crossing over Peninsular Malaysia into the northern stretches of the Strait of Malacca.

Authorities had previously said this radar data could not be verified.

He then said the last confirmed signal between the plane and a satellite came at 08:11 local time, 7 hours and 31 minutes after takeoff.

Airline officials have said the plane had enough fuel to fly for up to about eight hours.

Najib said authorities had determined that the plane's last communication with a satellite was in one of two possible "corridors" - a northern one from northern Thailand through to the border of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, and a southern one from Indonesia to the southern Indian Ocean.

He said that searching in the South China Sea, where the plane first lost contact with air traffic controllers, would be ended.

The current search involves 14 countries, 43 ships and 58 aircraft.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak on Friday expressed his "sincere appreciation" to Vietnam for their help in the search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.

Razak made the comment during an official visit to Hanoi to strengthen relations between the two countries.

Razak had an hour-long talk with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on cooperating in various fields including trade, agriculture, energy and the military.

Meanwhile, the search continues for Flight MH370 after it vanished from radar on 8 March on a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board.

Vietnam had conducted a week-long search and rescue mission for the plane in the South China Sea before data showed the Boeing jetliner 777 changed course and flew along a southern corridor in the Indian Ocean.

Razak is scheduled to meet Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang and Communist Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong later on Friday.

He is expected to leave Vietnam on Saturday.

Relatives of Chinese passengers travelling on the missing Malaysian passenger jet on Saturday reacted with anger and frustration to a statement by Malaysia's prime minister that the latest findings suggested flight MH370 had its communications deliberately disabled.

After watching Najib Razak's news conference on a big screen in a Beijing conference room, the relatives had many questions and concerns they wanted to discuss with airline officials who watched the briefing with them.

Malaysia Airlines Commercial Director Hugh Dunleavy, said he was "not permitted to respond to any questions", because the situation was starting to looking like a "criminal investigation".

However his response left some of the relatives furious and frustrated, as they accused both the airline and Malaysia's government of hiding the truth from them.

Razak said the plane's last signal came about seven and a half hours after takeoff, meaning it could have ended up as far as Kazakhstan or deep in the southern Indian Ocean.

Malaysia Airlines Chairman Md Nor Yusof said on Tuesday that it may take time for further information about the fate of Flight MH370 to become clear.

Speaking at a news conference at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang, Yusof said that "the investigation underway may yet prove to be even longer and more complex than it has been since March 8."

At the same news conference, Malaysia Airlines Chief Executive Officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said the company would continue to "support the ongoing investigation" and "ensure that we manage the lives of those affected moving forward."

Their words followed an announcement made by Prime Minister Najib Razak late on Monday saying the missing jet had gone down in the southern Indian Ocean with no survivors.

Although there have been an increasing number of apparent leads, there has been no definitive identification of any debris.

For several days now, search planes have been scouring seas 2,500 kilometres (1,550 miles) southwest of Perth, Australia, and have spotted several floating objects, but none have been retrieved or proven to be from the missing plane.

The latest satellite information cannot provide an exact location but just a rough estimate of where the jet crashed into the sea.

Meanwhile in the Chinese capital Beijing, nearly 100 relatives of passengers of the flight and their supporters marched on the Malaysian Embassy.

Many were wearing white T-shirts that read "Let's pray for MH370" as they held banners and shouted, "Tell the truth! Return our relatives!"

There was a heavy police presence at the embassy and there was a brief scuffle between police and a group of relatives who tried to approach journalists.

China demanded that Malaysia turn over the satellite data used to conclude that a Malaysia Airlines jetliner had crashed in the southern Indian Ocean killing everyone

on board.

China's Deputy Foreign Minister Xie Hangsheng told Malaysia's ambassador to Beijing that China wanted to know exactly what led Najib to announce that the plane had been lost, a statement on the ministry's website said.

Chinese relatives of passengers on Flight 370 demanded on Sunday that Malaysian authorities provide them with evidence that the Malaysian Airlines plane had crashed into the sea.

Tensions were running high at the Beijing hotel where Chinese relatives met with Malaysian government and airline representatives and demanded answers.

Meanwhile, the search for floating debris from the Malaysia Airlines jetliner was in high gear Sunday as nine aircraft, eight

ships and four helicopters combed an Indian Ocean search zone west of Australia more than three weeks after the Boeing 777 disappeared with 239 people on board.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak announced on March 24 that based on radar and satellite analysis the plane had crashed somewhere in the southern Indian Ocean.

But no debris linked to the Flight MH370 has been found yet, following 22 days of an extensive, multinational search.

"What we want is evidence. We know there were signals being sent by at least four transmitters, even this they cannot provide as proof. On what grounds are they saying the plane went down to the sea?" asked Wen Wancheng, father of one of the passengers on board the plane.

The relatives also demanded that the airline set up meetings with representatives from Boeing, Rolls Royce and Inmarsat, saying the lack of information was troubling.

Roll-Royce built the plane's engines, and Inmarsat, a British satellite telecommunications company, provided the satellite data that was used to map the jet's final route.

The relatives were assured of their stay at the hotel in Beijing until the plane was found.

Malaysia Airlines also said it would fly family members to Perth, where the current search base is, but only after wreckage was confirmed to have been found.

Two-thirds of the passengers aboard the plane, which disappeared en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur, were Chinese.

China has urged Malaysia to be more open about the investigation, while Malaysian officials have defended their handling of the probe and the information they have provided to passengers' relatives.
