The Malaysian Australian Business council and the Australian High Commission organised a reception on Sunday for visiting Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

Abbot said Australian businesses must venture out in order to gain opportunities abroad, including in Malaysia.

He also said the way Australia and Malaysia "have worked so well together" in addressing the twin tragedies of flights MH370 and MH17 has strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

The ongoing search efforts for the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 were high on the agenda during Abbott's visit.

Malaysia aims to send a search team to the crash site in Ukraine of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 before winter sets in to gather physical evidence to prove that it was shot down, Prime Minister Najib Razak has said.

The plane plunged from the sky on July 17, killing all on board, while flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur over an area of eastern Ukraine controlled by pro-Russia separatists.

Searches of the crash site were halted on August 6 due to concerns that fighting in the immediate area was a threat.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott arrived in Putrajaya on Saturday where he was welcomed by his Malaysian counterpart, Najib Razak.

Abbott was in Malaysia's administrative city, 25 kilometres (15.5 miles) south of the capital Kuala Lumpur, for a one-day visit following a visit to India.

The ongoing search efforts for the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 were high on the agenda during Abbott's visit.

Both leaders reiterated their commitment to continue the search until what was left of the missing aircraft is found.

They also discussed bilateral issues, including strengthening trade ties between the two countries and regional security.

The Prime Ministers of Australia and Malaysia on Thursday thanked search plane crews hunting for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 on a visit to the Australian air force base that is acting as the hub for the operation.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott met servicemen at the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Base Pearce near Perth in the morning, as part of Najib's visit to Australia to witness the search effort first-hand.

Addressing crew members from the seven countries involved in the search, Abbott thanked them for their "commitment", "professionalism" and "idealism".

Najib told the assembled personnel he was "very confident" that the international effort would "provide a closure for this event, for this tragedy".

The two Prime Ministers had breakfast with the servicemen, toured the air base, and met search plane crew members who have been undertaking almost daily flights to hunt for wreckage from the missing plane.

Najib's trip to Perth reinforces the reality that while Australia is coordinating the ocean search, the investigation into the tragedy ultimately remains Malaysia's responsibility.
