BADGLEY MISCHKA'S MATADOR STYLE

Badgley Mischka are known for their intricate, labor-intensive red carpet gowns.

Their New York Fashion Week collection for Fall/Winter 2015 was no different. There were no heavy coats or chunky knits - it was all about the female form and its embellishment with beautiful brocades.

The designing duo of James Mischka and Mark Badgley took their inspiration from the 1940s Tyrone Power bullfighting movie "Blood and Sand."

"It's really not about the fighter, not about the matador, it's about the women around him, his wife, his mistress and their sort of seething passions and dueling passions," explained Mischka backstage before the show.

Both shoulders and hips were emphasized with golden detailed motifs, while the gowns had expansive tails that reminded of a matador's cape. Reds, blacks, whites and blues dominated the color palette and everything was sewn in with silver or golden touches.

It was an opulent, elegant tour de force that combined classic silhouettes with imaginative shapes with a twist of '60s hair and makeup.
